Murder Inquiry Launched After Death of Ilkeston Man, Luke Elliott-Shircore

A murder investigation is now underway following the tragic death of a man in Ilkeston, Derbyshire. Luke Elliott-Shircore, a resident of the town, was found dead at his home on Wednesday, 25 June. The case has sent shockwaves through the local community as police confirm that Luke may have been the victim of a violent assault weeks prior to his death.

Assault Reported Weeks Before Death

Initial findings suggest that Luke, whose image has been circulated with police appeals, was involved in a serious assault nearly a month before he died. The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday, 25 May, at approximately 4:15pm, in the car park of the Aldi supermarket in Ilkeston.

Authorities now believe this assault may be directly linked to his death and are urgently appealing to members of the public who may have been in or around the Aldi store between 4pm and 5pm that day. Investigators are keen to gather any relevant eyewitness accounts or footage that might assist in piecing together the timeline of events that led to Luke’s tragic death.

Police Statement and Community Appeal

Detective Chief Inspector Jen Lovatt, from the regional major crime unit, issued a statement confirming the launch of a formal murder inquiry. She extended her condolences to Luke’s grieving family and urged the public to come forward with any information that could prove vital to the investigation.

“Luke’s family are aware that we have launched a murder investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death, and they are being supported by specialist officers,” said DCI Lovatt.

“Our thoughts go out to them at this sad time, and we ask that their wishes for privacy are respected by the public and media. We understand that this news will cause concern to residents in Ilkeston and ask that the community come together to support our enquiries, as our investigation relies on key information from the public.”

Appeal for Witnesses and Dashcam Footage

In a direct appeal, DCI Lovatt highlighted the importance of witness testimony and digital evidence in solving the case. Investigators are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who was present in the Aldi car park around the time of the reported assault.

“We believe that someone in the local community will have information about the circumstances which led to Luke’s death and are keen to hear from anyone who was in Aldi car park between 4-5pm on 25 May,” DCI Lovatt added.

“Did you see a man being assaulted? Or did you notice anyone behaving suspiciously? Perhaps you spoke to Luke, or saw him that day? We’re also very keen to speak with anyone with dash cam installed that was in the car park around this time and may have captured footage that will be useful to our investigation.”
