Van Nest Man Identified as Victim in Fatal Eastchester Shooting; Authorities Investigate Possible Road Rage Incident
EASTCHESTER, Bronx — A tragic and violent confrontation in the Eastchester neighborhood of the Bronx claimed the life of Keino Campbell, a 27-year-old resident of the Van Nest section, in what police believe may have been a deadly act of road rage.
The incident unfolded on Saturday, when NYPD officers responded to a report of a vehicle crash and potential shots fired near the intersection of Givan Avenue and Palmer Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered Campbell unconscious and unresponsive inside a gray Infiniti sedan that had collided with a parked car.
Police quickly realized this was more than a routine accident. Campbell had sustained three gunshot wounds to the chest, and despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead shortly after being transported to a nearby hospital.
A Sudden and Senseless Loss
Law enforcement sources say preliminary findings suggest the fatal shooting stemmed from a road rage altercation. It appears that Campbell may have been trying to flee from the shooter when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed. The shooter reportedly fled the scene before authorities arrived and remains at large.
Witnesses in the area reported hearing multiple gunshots and then the loud sound of a crash. Surveillance cameras from nearby residences and businesses are now being reviewed by investigators for clues about the identity of the suspect and the sequence of events that led to the deadly encounter.
“We believe this may have started as some kind of dispute between drivers, but quickly escalated to violence,” said one NYPD official familiar with the investigation. “The victim appears to have tried to drive away, which sadly may have led to the crash and ultimately his death.”
Community in Mourning
News of Campbell’s death has left his family, friends, and neighbors in shock. Known in his Van Nest community for his kind demeanor and positive outlook, Campbell’s life was abruptly cut short in a senseless act of violence that many are struggling to comprehend.
“He wasn’t the kind of person to be involved in anything dangerous,” a family member shared. “He just wanted to live a peaceful life and work hard. This should never have happened.”
Tributes to Campbell have poured in on social media, where loved ones remember him as a loving son, friend, and brother. Several neighbors have placed flowers and candles at the site of the crash, creating a growing makeshift memorial.
Ongoing Investigation
The NYPD’s 47th Precinct and detectives with the Bronx Homicide Squad are actively pursuing leads in the case. While they have not yet released a suspect description, they continue to canvass the area and examine footage from traffic and surveillance cameras.
Police are also appealing to members of the public who may have witnessed the shooting or captured it on dashcam or mobile phone video. Authorities are especially interested in speaking to anyone who was driving through the area between 5:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, when the shooting is believed to have occurred.
“This is a densely populated area, and we’re hopeful someone saw something—anything—that might help us piece this together and hold the shooter accountable,” said an NYPD spokesperson.

“We must find a way to de-escalate, to value life over pride,” said one local resident at the memorial. “No one should lose their life over something so trivial.”
