A Weekend of Violence

This shooting adds to a grim tally of violence in Toledo over the holiday weekend. The city has now seen five homicides in just a few days, shaking residents and prompting urgent responses from local leadership.

Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz released a somber statement on Sunday:

“These incidents are not connected, but together, they tell a heartbreaking story. A story of too many families grieving. A story of trauma that stretches far beyond the victims. Toledo is grieving. We all feel the weight of what happened this weekend because we all know it is unacceptable.”

Mayor Kapszukiewicz added that Toledo Police are actively investigating each of the incidents and have already taken one suspect into custody related to another case. He emphasized that officers are working “around the clock” with both proactive patrols and community engagement to stem the violence.

In addition, the Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement will be working with impacted families to provide support and address the systemic roots of violence in the community.

Seeking Justice and Healing

As the investigation continues, Toledo stands in mourning. The families of Christopher Bourn and Stefan Garrett, along with the survivors and their loved ones, are now left to grapple with unthinkable loss.

Community members are encouraged to come forward with any information that could help bring accountability and healing to a city reeling from yet another senseless tragedy.
