COUSHATTA, LA — A tragic single-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 1 claimed the life of a Coushatta man on Thursday morning, July 24, 2025. The incident occurred at approximately 11:45 a.m. near the intersection of Highway 1 and Riverport Drive in Red River Parish, according to Louisiana State Police Troop G.
The victim was identified as 37-year-old Brandon Ezernack of Coushatta. Authorities report that Ezernack was driving a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado southbound on Louisiana Highway 1 when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle veered off the roadway. The truck traveled down an embankment and collided with a tree, resulting in a catastrophic impact. Following the collision, the Silverado caught fire and became fully engulfed in flames.
Emergency responders arrived promptly at the scene but were unable to save Ezernack due to the intensity of the fire. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. It remains unknown whether Ezernack was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. No other vehicles or individuals were involved, and no additional injuries were reported.
Louisiana State Police have launched a comprehensive investigation to determine the cause of the crash. Investigators are examining potential factors such as road conditions, vehicle speed, possible mechanical issues, or driver-related factors. While impairment is not currently suspected, routine toxicology samples were collected and submitted for analysis, as is standard protocol in fatal crashes. Results from these tests are expected to provide further insight in the coming weeks.
The loss of Brandon Ezernack has deeply affected the close-knit Coushatta community, where he was a well-known and valued resident. Friends, family, and neighbors are grieving the sudden tragedy, coming together to support one another during this difficult time. Louisiana State Police are using this incident to remind drivers of the importance of staying vigilant, particularly on rural highways where unexpected hazards, such as changes in terrain, can pose significant risks.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are working diligently to uncover the circumstances that led to this devastating event.
