Devastating Family Tragedy: 47-Year-Old Corey Williams Fatally Shot by Teenage Son in Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE, WI — A tragic and deeply disturbing incident unfolded on the afternoon of Wednesday, July 2, 2025, when 47-year-old Corey Williams was fatally shot in his family’s apartment near 11th and Atkinson. According to family members and police, the suspected shooter is believed to be his own teenage son, who remains at large.

Authorities responded to reports of gunfire around 2:40 p.m., only to find Williams suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Williams’ sister, Karen Stegall, shared the harrowing details, revealing that the fatal shooting occurred in front of his younger children. “The kids had to endure their brother killing their dad,” she said, describing the emotional toll the event has taken on the family. She issued a public plea to her nephew, known as “Lil Corey,” to surrender peacefully. “Maybe you can get some mental help, but you left your sisters and brothers — they’re going to need help too.”

The motive behind the shooting is still under investigation. However, neighbors reported hearing frequent arguments between father and son in the days leading up to the tragedy. Lyahel Avery, who lives nearby, recalled the terrifying moment: “I was in the back on my way towards here, and I heard like five shots. They said six had already ran off.”

Police have not yet released the identity of the teenage suspect, who fled the scene immediately after the shooting. Authorities are urging him to turn himself in and are asking anyone with information on his whereabouts to contact Milwaukee Crime Stoppers at (414) 224-TIPS.

As the investigation continues, the Williams family is left grappling with unimaginable grief — mourning the loss of a father while coping with the fact that his life may have been taken by his own child.

Counseling services are reportedly being offered to the younger children who witnessed the shooting, as the community comes together to support a family torn apart by tragedy.
