MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A tragic shooting late Wednesday night at the City Place at Germantown Apartments in Southeast Shelby County left a woman dead and two men in custody. The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) identified the victim as Taquirney Fifer.
The incident occurred around 10:25 p.m. near Bromden Lane and Scanlon Drive. Deputies responded to reports of gunfire and found Fifer with a gunshot wound. Despite immediate efforts by officers to provide emergency aid, followed by the arrival of Shelby County Fire Department personnel, Fifer was pronounced dead at the scene. Her death has heightened concerns about rising gun violence in Memphis neighborhoods.
Two men were detained at the apartment complex in connection with the shooting. The SCSO has not released their identities or specified whether charges have been filed. Authorities are still working to determine the motive and whether the individuals involved were acquainted.
The investigation is ongoing, with deputies collecting evidence, interviewing witnesses, and reviewing potential surveillance footage. The SCSO urges anyone with information to contact them to assist in clarifying the circumstances of the shooting.
Residents of the typically quiet complex expressed shock and grief. “We heard sirens and saw flashing lights everywhere,” one neighbor recounted. “It’s unsettling to know something so violent happened so close to home.” As the community mourns Taquirney Fifer, many are left grappling with fear and seeking answers.
