Pellston, Michigan, With broken hearts, the Pellston community mourns the tragic and untimely loss of Christopher Houseworth, a beloved rising junior at Pellston High School, and his devoted father, Dale Houseworth, who both lost their lives in a heartbreaking drowning accident on July 5, 2025.
Christopher was a bright, talented, and deeply loved young man—a multi-sport athlete whose infectious smile, compassionate nature, and positive energy left a lasting impression on everyone he met. On the field, in the classroom, and among his peers, he was a leader by example—always quick to lift others up, offer a kind word, or bring a smile to someone’s face. Christopher’s presence brought light into every space he entered, and his memory will forever be a treasured part of the Pellston Hornet family.
His father, Dale Houseworth, was his son’s biggest fan and greatest supporter. A man of quiet strength and unwavering devotion, Dale was always there—on the sidelines, in the stands, at every step of Christopher’s journey. He played an essential role in shaping the remarkable young man Christopher became, and his love for his sons was unconditional and unshakeable.
Christopher and Dale leave behind Christopher’s older brother, Ronald “Ronnie” Houseworth, and their loving grandmother and guardian, Linda Williamson. Ronnie, a recent graduate of Pellston High School, is a gifted artist preparing to begin his college career this fall. He carries not only the weight of this tremendous loss but also the hopes and promise of a bright future ahead. Linda, who lovingly raised Christopher, is a pillar of strength—more than a grandmother, she was his guiding light and source of unconditional love.
This tragedy has deeply affected Pellston Public Schools, its students, faculty, and the greater community. Christopher was cherished by so many—teammates, classmates, and teachers alike. His absence will be felt in every hallway, every classroom, and every game.
In response, Mr. Schlappi and school leaders are arranging grief counseling services to support students and staff during this incredibly difficult time. The school office will remain open full-time, and all are encouraged to reach out for help and connection.
We ask our community to surround the Houseworth family with compassion, grace, and support. May we all honor Christopher and Dale by living with the same love, spirit, and kindness they gave to the world.
Rest in peace, Christopher and Dale. Your lives touched us deeply, and your memory will live on forever in our hearts.
