Grand Ledge, Michigan, With heavy hearts and profound sorrow, we announce the passing of Matthew Rost Bellgowan, age 53, who tragically lost his life in an automobile accident on July 1, 2025. A devoted husband, loving father, faithful servant, and loyal friend, Matthew’s sudden departure leaves a deep void in the lives of all who knew and loved him.
Born in Lansing, Michigan, on January 29, 1972, Matthew was the beloved son of Terry Bellgowan and Susan (Coryell) Maskill. From an early age, he showed a curious mind and strong character, qualities that would define him throughout his life. He pursued his passion for building and design, earning a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Michigan Tech University, and went on to work with distinction for both MDOT and Rowe Professional Services.
Matthew’s professional accomplishments were matched only by his deep personal commitments. His faith in Christ was unwavering, and he lived that faith every day as a member of Believers Christian Church, where he served humbly as a Helmsman and as leader of the sound team. He was known for his generosity, his calm presence, and his steadfast devotion to both his church and his family.
He enjoyed a rich life filled with music, movies, golf, board games, fishing, and hunting, often spending time outdoors or sharing laughter with his loved ones. But above all, Matthew was a family man. He found his greatest joy in the life he built with his wife and children, and his love for them was visible in everything he did.
Matthew is survived by his loving wife, Danielle Bellgowan, and their children: Aaron (Anna) Bellgowan, Lauren, Jordan, and Elana Bellgowan. He is also survived by his father, Terry (Tammy) Bellgowan; his mother, Susan (Mike) Maskill; his siblings, Margaret Root, Amanda (Gerry) Bopp, and Josh Bellgowan; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. He was preceded in death by his sister, Sara Calabrese, and his beloved grandparents.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at Mt. Hope Church, 202 S. Creyts Rd., Lansing, MI 48917. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. All who knew and cherished Matthew are invited to come and celebrate the life of a man who gave so much of himself to others.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made directly to his wife, Danielle Bellgowan, to support the family during this difficult time.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mills Funeral Home, Peters and Murray Chapel. To leave condolences or share memories with the family, please visit www.millsfuneral.com.
