The Maryland football family is deeply heartbroken to share the passing of Tim Strachan — a cherished alum, former radio analyst, student assistant coach, and an enduring motivational force whose impact on the University of Maryland community — and far beyond — will never be forgotten.
Tim’s journey was one defined not only by talent and knowledge of the game but by unparalleled courage, heart, and perseverance. A standout high school quarterback and a promising athlete, Tim’s life was forever changed after a spinal cord injury at age 19. But where others might have seen an end, Tim saw a new beginning.
With remarkable strength and determination, Tim returned to the program as a student assistant coach, dedicating himself to helping others succeed on and off the field. Later, as a color analyst for Maryland Football radio broadcasts, his insightful commentary, love for the game, and passion for the Terrapin community made him a beloved and trusted voice.
Tim’s story was never just about football — it was about character, faith, and an unshakable will to uplift others. He used his voice and presence to inspire countless people, from players and students to fans and families, becoming a symbol of resilience and possibility.
His legacy is woven into the very fabric of Maryland Athletics — in the locker room, in the broadcast booth, and in the hearts of everyone who had the honor of knowing him. He was a mentor, a motivator, a leader, and above all, a friend.
To his family, friends, and all who mourn this profound loss, we extend our deepest condolences. The Terp family stands with you.
Rest in peace, Tim Strachan. Your strength will continue to echo in every cheer from the stands, every fight in the huddle, and every heart that dares to believe in something greater. You will forever be part of our Maryland legacy.
