Jackson Man, 48, Dies in Tragic Motorcycle Crash After Collision at Highway 71 Intersection

JACKSON, MN — A tragic motorcycle crash on Tuesday evening, July 22, 2025, claimed the life of 48-year-old Jason Mekosch, a resident of Jackson. The incident occurred at approximately 5:25 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 71 and Bailey Street in Jackson.

According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, the crash involved a 2017 Ford Fusion driven by a 17-year-old local resident and a 1991 Harley-Davidson motorcycle operated by Mekosch. Both vehicles were traveling southbound on Highway 71 when the Ford Fusion signaled and began a right turn onto Bailey Street. Authorities report that Mekosch attempted to pass the vehicle on the right, resulting in a collision with the Fusion. The impact caused Mekosch to lose control of the motorcycle, which then struck a light pole.

Emergency responders, including the Jackson Ambulance Service and Jackson Fire Department, arrived promptly at the scene. Mekosch was transported to Sanford Jackson Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased due to injuries sustained in the crash. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Mekosch was not wearing a helmet at the time of the incident.

The driver of the Ford Fusion was uninjured, and no other injuries were reported. The crash remains under investigation by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office to determine additional factors that may have contributed to the incident.

Sheriff Shawn Haken expressed condolences to Mekosch’s family and urged all motorists to exercise caution, particularly at intersections, and to wear appropriate safety gear when operating motorcycles.
