The Nueces County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the man killed in an officer-involved shooting on Monday, July 14, 2025, as 47-year-old Hector Rincon. The incident occurred in Corpus Christi, Texas, on the city’s southside, near the 7900 block of Elk Drive, close to Yorktown and Cimarron Boulevard.
Corpus Christi Police Department (CCPD) officers responded to a call regarding an assault with a weapon just before 6 p.m. on Monday. According to Senior Officer Travis Pace, when an officer arrived at the scene, a physical altercation immediately ensued with Rincon inside a residence. The struggle continued outside, where the officer attempted multiple times to use non-lethal force to subdue him. Despite these efforts, Rincon continued to resist, entered a vehicle, and allegedly attempted to run over the officer.
CCPD Police Chief Mike Markle reported that the officer, positioned in the vehicle’s door jamb while trying to pull Rincon out, discharged his service weapon in response to the threat. Rincon was struck, immediately received first aid from the officer, and was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. The exact number of shots fired was not disclosed at the time.
As per CCPD policy, the officer involved has been placed on administrative leave pending an ongoing investigation. The incident led to the temporary closure of Kodiak and Moose Drive as police secured the scene. The investigation remains active, with authorities encouraging anyone with information to contact the Corpus Christi Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division at 361-886-2840 or submit anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers at 888-TIPS (8477).
