A tragic accident claimed the life of Andrew Ryan, a 27-year-old resident of Grayslake, who succumbed to injuries sustained in a motorcycle crash early Saturday morning in an unincorporated area near Gurnee.
The incident occurred around 6:20 a.m. on Route 45, north of Dada Drive, where Ryan was operating a 2007 Harley-Davidson motorcycle. According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Ryan was traveling northbound at a high rate of speed when he temporarily lost control on wet pavement. After regaining control, he continued north but failed to navigate a curve properly, crossing into the southbound lane and colliding with a 2005 Nissan Rogue driven by a 69-year-old man from Lake Villa.
Sheriff’s deputies arrived at the scene and found Ryan ejected from the motorcycle, suffering critical injuries. Deputies applied a tourniquet and attempted life-saving measures before he was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he was pronounced deceased. An autopsy conducted on Monday by the Lake County Coroner’s Office confirmed that Ryan died from blunt force injuries sustained in the crash.
The driver of the Nissan Rogue was uninjured and is cooperating with authorities. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team is continuing to investigate the circumstances of the collision. Route 45 was closed in both directions between Rollins Road and Dada Drive for several hours following the crash to facilitate the investigation.
