TOLEDO, Ohio — A tragic shooting on Independence Day left one person dead and another injured in Toledo, adding a somber note to the city’s holiday celebrations. The incident occurred around 4:45 p.m. on July 4 on Baden Street near South Avenue, according to Toledo Police.
Authorities have not yet released the names of the victims as they continue to investigate the events that led up to the shooting.
A woman at the scene, who identified herself only as Daisy, told 13 Action News that she was hosting a family party when a young woman came running to her house in distress.
“She ran into my house and slammed the door,” Daisy said. “She said someone was following her, but I didn’t see anyone behind her.”
Daisy said the young woman told her that her brother had been shot, along with someone else who was in the car. That’s when Daisy called 9-1-1.
“It scared me. It worried me,” she said. “She said her brother got shot, and whoever else was in the car. That’s when I called 9-1-1.”
Daisy, visibly shaken in the live interview, shared that she has personally been affected by gun violence before. “I’m sick and tired of it. I lost a son to something like this,” she added.
Detectives are actively investigating the scene and are asking anyone with information to come forward. Tips can be submitted anonymously by calling or texting Crime Stoppers at 419-255-1111.
As Toledo grapples with yet another act of gun violence, the community is left mourning and calling for change.
