Powerboat Racer Allegedly Threw Woman Overboard, Then Fled from Water Patrol at Lake of the Ozarks

On Saturday, July 12, 2025, a dramatic incident unfolded at Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri, involving Loren Peters, a well-known powerboat racer. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, authorities received a call at approximately 8:19 p.m. reporting a domestic assault on a boat in Davey Hollow Cove, near the 11 Mile Marker. The report alleged that Peters had thrown a woman overboard during the incident.

Water Patrol Division troopers, while en route to the scene, spotted Peters’ vessel, an orange 2023 Hayaari Marine H44Z center-console equipped with quad 450HP outboard engines, near the 10 Mile Marker. The boat, capable of speeds exceeding 90 mph, was allegedly operated by Peters, who refused to stop when troopers attempted to intervene. Instead, he accelerated, initiating a high-speed chase across the water. The pursuit ended in Mill Creek Cove, where Peters docked his boat and fled on foot. Authorities apprehended him at 8:43 p.m.

Peters now faces multiple charges, including Boating While Intoxicated, Resisting Arrest, Reckless Operation of a Vessel, and Domestic Assault – 4th Degree. The woman involved in the incident was safely rescued, though details regarding her condition have not been disclosed.

The incident has drawn significant attention due to Peters’ prominence in the powerboat racing community and the dangerous nature of the high-speed chase on the busy waters of Lake of the Ozarks.
