Serious Crash Involving School Bus and Tour Bus on Interstate 380 in Coolbaugh Township

COOLBAUGH TOWNSHIP, PA (MONROE COUNTY) – A severe motor vehicle accident involving a school bus and a tour bus occurred around 9:00 a.m. on July 26, 2025, on Interstate 380 southbound near mile marker 9.3 in Coolbaugh Township, triggering a significant emergency response.

The collision caused the school bus to overturn, resulting in a mass casualty incident. Three individuals—two adult males and one 13-year-old boy—were ejected from the vehicle, sustaining head injuries and other trauma. Emergency medical services (EMS) evaluated up to 30 patients for potential injuries at the scene.

Multiple fire and EMS units from Monroe and neighboring Lackawanna County responded to manage the crisis. Agencies on scene included the Pennsylvania State Police, Monroe County Stations 25 and 47, and EMS units 11 Medic 1, 1122, 1129, 1103, 1408, 921, Lackawanna 55-9, Medic 16-3, and Mobile 16-2.

A medevac helicopter was initially placed on standby but was later canceled due to logistical or weather-related constraints. All patients were transported by ground ambulance to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.

The southbound lanes of Interstate 380 were temporarily closed to facilitate emergency operations and ensure the safe transport of patients from the crash site.

The Pennsylvania State Police are leading the investigation into the cause of the accident, which remains under active review. Further details, including the identities of the injured and the specific circumstances leading to the collision, have not been disclosed as the investigation continues.
