Teen’s Bright Future Cut Short in Mesquite Shooting Tragedy

The Mesquite community is reeling from the tragic loss of 16-year-old Brandon Lil Wayne McGhee, who was fatally shot in a neighborhood incident that has left residents in shock and mourning.

On Thursday, July 24, 2025, at approximately 9:30 p.m., Mesquite police responded to reports of gunfire in the 2100 block of Pecan Creek Drive. Upon arrival, officers discovered two teenage victims. A 15-year-old male was found with a gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Nearby, 16-year-old Brandon Lil Wayne McGhee was located and pronounced dead at the scene, as confirmed by the Dallas County Medical Examiner.

Following an investigation, Mesquite police identified and arrested a 15-year-old male suspect on Saturday, July 26, at approximately 10:50 a.m. The juvenile suspect faces charges of murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The Mesquite Police Department has not disclosed the suspect’s identity due to their age or provided details on the motive, as the investigation remains active. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the department to assist in ensuring justice for those affected.
