WATERFORD TOWNSHIP, PA — The Pennsylvania State Police are investigating a tragic hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of 33-year-old Justin Puckly, a Waterford resident. The incident occurred in the early morning hours of Saturday, July 19, 2025, on Route 19 in Waterford Township, Erie County.
According to troopers from PSP Girard, the incident was reported at approximately 1:21 a.m. in the 12900 block of Route 19 South. Justin Puckly was walking south along the roadway when he was struck by an unknown vehicle also traveling south. The driver fled the scene, leaving Puckly with fatal injuries. Erie County Coroner Lyell Cook pronounced Puckly dead at the scene at 2:07 a.m., attributing the cause of death to multiple blunt-force injuries sustained in the crash. An autopsy is not currently planned.
Investigators believe the suspect vehicle passed through the Route 19/Route 97 roundabout and continued south past Church Road between 12:55 a.m. and 1:10 a.m. State police are actively reviewing surveillance footage and other evidence to identify the vehicle and driver involved. They are also seeking information about any vehicles seen in the area during the specified time frame, as well as reports of recently damaged vehicles that may be connected to the incident.
The Pennsylvania State Police are urging anyone with information, including eyewitness accounts or video footage, to contact the Erie Barracks at 814-898-1641. Authorities have emphasized that even small details could be crucial in solving this case and have encouraged the driver responsible to come forward, noting that doing so may result in less severe consequences.
