Woman Fatally Assaulted in Chicago’s Riverdale Neighborhood; Suspect Charged with Murder

CHICAGO – A 30-year-old woman, Shaniqua Kinnard, was found dead in her home in the 13400 block of South King Drive in Chicago’s Riverdale neighborhood on Friday, July 11, 2025. Chicago police initially responded to the scene to conduct a death investigation after the woman was discovered unresponsive.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as Shaniqua Kinnard, a mother of six children, the youngest of whom is just nine months old. Authorities determined that Kinnard had been fatally assaulted, suffering injuries consistent with a beating.

On Sunday, July 13, 2025, police arrested Jarve Toms-Dixon, a 30-year-old Chicago resident, in connection with the killing. Toms-Dixon has been charged with one count of first-degree murder. He is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, July 16, 2025.

The precise cause of Kinnard’s death has not been publicly disclosed by authorities, and the investigation remains ongoing as police continue to gather details surrounding the incident. The tragic loss leaves behind Kinnard’s six children and has prompted an outpouring of grief in the community.
