Houston: 11-year-old dies after being shot while playing ‘ding-dong-ditch,’ police say

An 11-year-old boy has died after being shot while playing “ding-dong-ditch” in eastern Houston, according to police.

A 11-year-old was shot in the 9700 block of Racine Street playing ding-dong-ditch.

What we know:

The incident happened a little before 11 p.m. Saturday in the 9700 block of Racine Street. Officers from the Northeast Patrol Division responded to a shooting call and found that the child had been shot.

Police say the 11-year-old and possibly two others were ringing doorbells in the area and running away. Allegedly, a witness saw the boy running from a home after ringing a doorbell, just before he was shot.

Sergeant Michael Cass with the Houston Police Department says the boy was transferred to the hospital around 11:30 p.m. last night. An update came at around 2:00 p.m. on Sunday notifying him that the boy had died from a gunshot wound.

Houston police have identified a possible suspect and say the suspect is detained.

According to police, one person was detained for questioning, but was later released.
