Police say Vasquez was behind the wheel of a 2008 Nissan Sentra when he approached the intersection of Grover and Hawkins and ran a stop sign. Instead of stopping, the vehicle struck a center median. The impact apparently sent it airborne — it crossed Hawkins and ultimately collided with an office building at 1250 Hawkins Boulevard. No other individuals were harmed in the crash.
Witnesses at the scene described hearing a loud crash and seeing smoke rise just before first responders arrived.
