“Aria’s Last Drive — a Young Life Ended on US-17A”

The winds of an ordinary Friday afternoon on October 24, 2025, carried a heartbreak that would ripple through the small towns of Berkeley County, South Carolina. It was just after 4:30 p.m. when 24-year-old Aria Lawrence of Andrews climbed into her car — a 2020 Chevy Malibu — unaware that within minutes her life would be cut short.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP), Aria was driving northbound on U.S. Highway 17A when her sedan made contact with a southbound Ford F-150 just north of Pear Tree Lane. That initial side-swipe jolted her car across the centerline and into the path of a southbound Freightliner truck. The impact was irrevocable.

Emergency crews from multiple agencies rushed to the scene. They found Aria unresponsive and, despite vigorous life-saving efforts, she was pronounced dead on site. The drivers of the Ford and the Freightliner sustained no injuries.

Investigators from SCHP’s Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) arrived to painstakingly piece together what had happened. At publication time no definitive cause — such as a mechanical failure or weather condition — had been established, though work continues.

When Aria’s name was released by the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office, the news spread through her school, workplace and hometown with shock and sorrow. Friends remembered her as kind, ambitious and full of promise — young qualities tragically extinguished far too soon.

Traffic along US-17A was shut for several hours while crews cleared debris and conducted their investigation. The closure brought the stretch to a halt, a sudden pause in the flow of everyday movement that echoed the emotional stillness left behind in the community.

In the days that followed, local residents have gathered in grief and remembrance. On social media and in whispered conversations, memories of Aria’s warm smile and helpful nature have surfaced. Her passing serves as a poignant reminder: lives can change in a split second, and the roads we travel demand our full attention and respect.

Authorities continue to ask anyone who may have witnessed the accident or who has footage of the scene to contact the highway patrol. Even small details can illuminate larger truths. As the investigation moves forward, the community holds on to the hope that answers will bring some measure of closure — and a deeper sense of caution for all who share the road.
