Beloved 80-Year-Old Dies in Henry County Crash After Turning Into Oncoming Path

It was just after midday on Thursday, October 16, when the quiet of Henry County was pierced by tragedy. Around 12:45 p.m., an 80-year-old woman lost her life in a two-vehicle collision on A.L. Philpott Highway near Preston Road. The Virginia State Police say the details are still under investigation—but the human cost feels painfully clear.

The victim has been identified as Cinderella Williams Carr, a longtime resident of Patrick Springs. According to authorities, Ms. Carr was driving a 2012 Ford Fusion, exiting the parking lot of a Dollar General store, when she attempted a left turn onto the highway. In that maneuver, she failed to yield the right of way—and her car was struck by a 2019 Mack Granite truck traveling eastbound.

Witnesses and investigators agree on one detail: Ms. Carr was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash. Paramedics later declared her dead at the scene. The driver of the Mack Granite emerged from the collision uninjured.

Authorities emphasize that, for now, no charges have been filed. The Virginia State Police say their investigation into how exactly everything unfolded continues.

Word of Ms. Carr’s passing has unsettled the Henry County community. Neighbors and friends recall a gentle presence, someone known and loved in Patrick Springs. For many, the image of her striking out on that routine trip—only to never return—has resonated deeply.

In the wake of this loss, local residents and officials alike are re-upping a sobering reminder: driving demands constant vigilance. Merging, turning, entering or exiting roadways—all moments of decision carry weight. For Ms. Carr’s family and for the wider community, mourning continues—even as the investigation progresses.
