In the early hours of Monday morning, tragedy struck the Brownsville community as 27-year-old Ramiro Torres lost his life in a devastating single-vehicle accident on FM 3248 near Dr. Hugh Emerson Road. Torres, a dedicated security officer at Manzano Middle School, was known for his unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of students and staff.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), the incident occurred around 1 a.m. when Torres was driving a 2004 black Chevrolet Silverado westbound. Reports indicate that he was allegedly racing a Chevrolet Camaro at the time. The Silverado veered off the road, slid onto its side, and collided with a utility pole. Despite the swift response of emergency crews, Torres succumbed to his injuries at the scene.



A female passenger in the vehicle sustained serious injuries and was transported to Valley Regional Medical Center. Her current condition remains undisclosed, and authorities have not released her identity.
Brownsville Independent School District (BISD) confirmed that Torres had been employed as a security officer at Manzano Middle School since February 2018. The district expressed deep sorrow over his passing, describing him as a respected member of the school community who was valued for his commitment, professionalism, and the positive relationships he built with students, staff, and families.
