“Court Order Didn’t Stop It: Woman Killed at Korean BBQ in La Habra in Apparent Murder-Suicide”

On a quiet Tuesday evening in La Habra, a routine dinner outing turned into a nightmare. Around 6:45 p.m. on October 14, law enforcement received panicked calls of gunshots at Gui Gui 9292 Korean BBQ, a lively restaurant on West Imperial Highway. When officers rushed in, they found two people—the former couple—fatally wounded. Paramedics pronounced both deceased at the scene.

The victims were later identified: Jacqueline Medrano, 45, of Covina, and Jonathan Wang, 35, of Long Beach. According to the La Habra Police Department, preliminary findings suggest Wang shot Medrano multiple times before turning the gun on himself.

Investigators say the two had previously been in a romantic relationship, and that a court had issued a protective order against Wang on September 16, prohibiting him from contacting Medrano. That order was still active at the time of the tragedy.

Inside the restaurant when the shots rang out were a number of diners, many caught off guard. Miraculously, no one else was injured. Some customers fled in panic, others dove for cover, and the restaurant quickly emptied.

La Habra police have made it clear the incident is being treated as a domestic-related murder-suicide, not a random act of violence. They emphasize there is no ongoing danger to the public.

Still, serious questions linger—especially about how Wang obtained the firearm despite the protective order still being in effect. Authorities say they’re looking closely into that aspect of the case.

The restaurant remains closed as crime scene teams sift through evidence. Meanwhile, La Habra residents and past patrons are left reeling over how a place meant for shared meals became the stage for such a terrible ending. If you were in that area or witnessed anything unusual that evening, police are urging you to come forward.
