Shots Ring Out at Evergreen Park Walmart, Multiple Injured in Evening Shooting

Just after 7:20 p.m. Wednesday, chaos and fear broke out inside the Walmart Supercenter in Evergreen Park, Illinois — reports now confirm that multiple people were shot, and more were hurt as crowds scrambled for safety.

When police and emergency responders arrived, they found at least two victims with gunshot wounds, alongside several others who sustained injuries while fleeing or taking cover. The store was immediately locked down as officers and paramedics rushed into action.

An EMS Plan 1 mobilization brought ambulances and fire units to the scene to triage and transport the wounded. Victims were taken to nearby hospitals, though authorities have withheld details about their current conditions.

Law enforcement sources say a suspect is now in custody, but they have yet to share a motive or whether there was any prior connection between the suspect and those attacked. Investigation remains ongoing.

Shoppers and staff inside the store described instinct-driven panic, with gunfire echoing through the aisles and people ducking behind displays or rushing toward any open exit. Some footage shared online shows heavy police presence near West 95th Street, confirming the magnitude of the response.

As the scene remains secured, Evergreen Park police — aided by the Cook County Sheriff’s Office and other regional agencies — are combing the area for evidence and interviewing witnesses. Meanwhile, officials are pleading with anyone who has video recordings or information to come forward and help piece together what happened.

At this point, many questions remain unanswered. How did it begin? Who was targeted — and why? As the community watches closely, authorities say more updates will be made public when the picture becomes clearer.
