In the quiet hours of Sunday at around 2 a.m., a lively gathering along North McNaughton Boulevard in Moultrie, Georgia erupted into tragedy. According to the Moultrie Police Department, gunfire rang out and officers arriving to the scene encountered a large crowd scattering in the darkness.
Amid the chaos, 24-year-old Quincy Alford was found suffering from a gunshot wound and rushed to the hospital. Two days later, on October 28, Alford succumbed to his injuries; his death has been officially ruled a homicide.

While officers were still processing the scene, a separate call came from a local hospital: a 15-year-old boy had been admitted with a gunshot wound believed to be connected to the same incident. He remains in critical condition, and because of his age and the ongoing investigation the police have not released his name.
Investigators from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) have teamed up with the local department to piece together what happened—going through surveillance video, interviewing witnesses and asking community members to come forward. According to the MPD, many people fled before officers arrived, making eyewitness accounts scarce.
For the residents of Moultrie, the shooting has shaken the sense of safety. Neighbours have described a city campus usually quiet in those hours now left with more questions than answers. City leaders and police officers are urging anyone with information—even the smallest tip—to help. The department noted: “Even the smallest piece of information could make a difference.”
As the investigation continues, there’s also a human story behind the headlines. Quincy Alford is being remembered by family and friends as a hardworking, kind and well-liked young man whose life ended too soon. Social media posts have been filled with memories and heartfelt tributes. Meanwhile his 15-year-old co-victim remains in hospital, fighting for his life.
The investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been announced so far. Authorities are asking anyone with knowledge of the shooting on North McNaughton Boulevard early Sunday to contact the MPD or the GBI. With so many people yet to speak up, the hope is that someone will break the silence and help shine light on what exactly sparked the violence that cost a life and left another youngster gravely injured.
