It all happened around 4:30 p.m. on Friday, November 7, 2025, when 23‑year‑old career firefighter Sammy Ershidat of the Chesterfield County Fire & EMS was riding his motorcycle eastbound on West Hundred Road, near the 4900 block, when the bike collided with a vehicle exiting the Grand Oaks Apartments complex. He was swiftly transported to the hospital, but tragically succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the vehicle suffered non‑life‑threatening injuries.
For nearly two years, Sammy had proudly worn the badge of service. He graduated from Recruit School 68 in 2024 and was assigned to Engine 211 “C” Shift at Fire Station 11 on Iron Bridge Road. To his colleagues, he was not just a firefighter — he was a ray of light: brave, selfless, always ready to answer the call, even though his own journey was just beginning. “We are all saddened by the loss of Firefighter Sammy Ershidat, who was taken from us as his career as a firefighter had just begun. He proudly served the residents of Dale while assigned to one of the busiest stations in Chesterfield County,” said Fire Chief Edward L. Senter, Jr.

Outside the uniform, Sammy was someone’s son, brother, friend—someone who loved his community and didn’t shy away from helping others. In the days following the crash, former coworkers and friends have shared stories of spontaneous acts of kindness, of a quick‑smile and a helping hand, and how Sammy would show up when it mattered most. That blend of youth, commitment and heart made his loss all the more painful for those who knew him.
As news spread through the neighborhoods of Chesterfield County, so did the sorrow. A community that Sammy devoted himself to serving is now rallying around his memory and his family. Neighbors and firefighters alike have placed flags at stations, shared memories online, and reached out in solidarity. It’s a quiet but powerful tribute to a young life cut short, and the service he offered so willingly.
The investigations into the crash remain active. Officials with the Chesterfield County Police Department continue to seek any information about the circumstances surrounding the collision. Anyone with knowledge is asked to contact them via their non‑emergency lines or Crime Solvers.
In the face of grief, Sammy’s legacy stands firm: a young man committed to protecting others, even as he was building his own path. His bravery, his warmth, his readiness to serve — these are the things that remain in the hearts of the people whose lives he touched. While his shift has ended too soon, the impact of it remains.
Rest in peace, Sammy Ershidat. The lives you touched, the community you served, the colleagues you inspired — they will carry your story forward. Your spirit lives on in every act of service, every helping hand, every moment someone chooses to put others first.
