23-Year-Old East Bakersfield Man Identified After Saturday Night Shooting

A young man’s life ended far too soon on Saturday night in east Bakersfield, leaving friends, family and his community grappling for answers. The Angel Preciado, aged 23, a resident of Bakersfield, was confirmed by the Kern County Coroner’s Office as the victim of the fatal shooting.

According to the Kern County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to a call in the 2700 block of Center Street around 9:10 p.m. on Saturday after reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, officers found Preciado inside a home, where he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Details remain sparse as investigators piece together what led to the tragedy. Homicide detectives have taken over the investigation, and the sheriff’s office is urging anyone with information to come forward. The atmosphere at the scene on Center Street was described as tense, with deputies working to secure evidence and interview neighbors late into the evening.

For the community, the loss is deeply felt. At just 23, Angel had many years ahead—his sudden death has sparked a wave of sorrow among those who knew him. The fact that this happened inside a home on a quiet Saturday night adds a gut-wrenching dimension: safety within one’s own walls feels compromised.

Friends noted that Angel was known for his laughter, his energy, the way he greeted people with a warm smile. His death has prompted an outpouring of grief on social media, with people sharing memories of him as someone always ready to help or joke around, always “there.” Amid the heartbreak, there’s also a sharp awareness that someone else holds the key to what happened—and the community hopes that person comes forward.

Investigators continue to seek leads. The sheriff’s office reminded the public that tips can be made anonymously—through the Kern Secret Witness line at (661) 322-4040—or directly at the sheriff’s office at (661) 861-3110. While no suspect information has been released yet, deputies have asked residents in the area to review any cameras or doorbells for the time of the incident and to report anything unusual.

For now, Angel Preciado’s name stands as another young life lost in Kern County. His family is left with the emptiness that comes when a future is cut short; his friends with the shock of waking up to a Saturday night that ended in tragedy instead of a new week. The city of Bakersfield waits for answers—and for the possibility of some justice in the darkness of this night.
