Bright Spirit Lost in an Instant — Young Motorcyclist Killed at South Belvidere and Spring

The Richmond community is reeling after the sudden death of 21-year-old Alexander Norton of North Chesterfield, who was killed in a motorcycle collision Tuesday afternoon in the city.

At approximately 3:59 p.m., officers from the Richmond Police Department Crash Team responded to the intersection of South Belvidere and Spring Streets, following reports of a crash involving a motorcycle and an SUV. According to the department, emergency crews arrived and found Norton critically injured; he was rushed to a hospital where he later died.

Investigators say Norton was travelling on Spring Street and, when attempting to make a left turn onto South Belvidere, reportedly ignored a red traffic signal. At nearly the same moment, a southbound SUV was also entering the intersection and turning left. The two vehicles collided with significant force.

The driver of the SUV, an adult male, remained at the scene and fully cooperated with investigators; he was not injured. At this time, no charges have been filed as the Crash Team continues its investigation.

Friends and family recall Norton as a young man with a big heart — someone full of life, always willing to lend a hand, and passionate about motorcycles and adventure.
