Elderly Man Fatally Struck by Porsche While Crossing in Bensalem

On Friday evening in Bensalem Township, an 84-year-old man named Martin Thompson was tragically struck and killed while crossing Brownsville Road. Authorities say the crash occurred around 6:20 p.m. near Oak Avenue.

Thompson, a Trevose resident, was crossing mid-block when a dark blue Porsche heading northbound hit him. According to Bensalem Police, another car turning left from Oak Avenue onto Brownsville Road blocked the Porsche driver’s line of sight — the driver did not see Thompson before the collision.

When officers arrived, they found Thompson with severe head injuries and no vital signs. Emergency crews pronounced him dead at the scene. The Porsche driver remained at the scene and is fully cooperating with investigators.

At this time, police say there’s no sign that alcohol, drugs, or speed played a role in the crash. Authorities are continuing their investigation into exactly how things unfolded.

Bensalem Police are asking anyone who witnessed the collision or captured video of the incident to come forward. Those with information are encouraged to call (215) 633-3719.

This heartbreaking loss has left the community stunned — an elderly man going about his evening, crossing a familiar road, and in a split second his life was taken. As police piece together what happened, neighbors are being urged to help shed light on the crash.
