Tragedy on Highway 90: Community Mourns 20-Year-Old Katlan Roura

Katlan Roura, a bright 20-year-old from Crestview, was struck and killed Friday evening on U.S. Highway 90, leaving a community reeling at the sudden loss of her warm spirit.

The Florida Highway Patrol reports that the accident happened just around 6 p.m. near Hare Street, when a pickup truck driven by a 22-year-old Crestview man was heading east in the inside lane. Katlan was walking north across the eastbound lanes when she entered the path of the truck, which struck her with its left front.

First responders rushed to the scene quickly, but sadly, Katlan was pronounced dead on impact. The driver remained unharmed and stayed at the site, fully cooperating with authorities.

Troopers say the investigation is still underway — they haven’t released a cause yet and are urging any witnesses or people with information to come forward.

While officials work, Katlan’s friends and family are remembering her for the light she brought into every room. To them, she wasn’t just a vibrant young woman — she was a friend, a daughter, and someone whose kindness was felt by many. The loss has left an emptiness that words can’t quite fill.

Her death has become a stark reminder of how fragile life is, especially when it comes to pedestrians on busy roadways. As the community grapples with grief, there’s a collective push to support Katlan’s loved ones and make sure her memory lives on.

In the days ahead, officials with the Florida Highway Patrol hope to piece together exactly what happened — not just to understand how it occurred, but to prevent such heartbreak from happening again. Meanwhile, the community holds onto Katlan’s memory — her laughter, her warmth, and the promise of everything she still had ahead of her.

Rest in peace, Katlan. Your life may have been cut short, but your impact will last long after.
