Trenton Man Charged After Shooting His Girlfriend and Dumping Her Body Along Pennsylvania Canal

In a heartbreaking early-morning tragedy, 36-year-old Lamont Truitt of Trenton has been arrested and charged with fatally shooting his girlfriend, 32-year-old Alyssia Murphy, and injuring another woman. The shocking incident occurred around 5:51 a.m. Sunday, and ended when Murphy’s body was later found abandoned in a car near the Delaware Canal in Bucks County, Pennsylvania.

According to authorities, investigators traced the violence back to a silver Toyota Camry parked on Coolidge Avenue in Trenton. Murphy was inside the vehicle with a 25-year-old female friend when Truitt approached, sparking a heated argument. Prosecutors say Truitt brandished a handgun and fired multiple shots.

The friend in the car managed to escape — limping but alive. She was later found by police on the 200 block of Coolidge Avenue with a gunshot wound to her leg and taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Truitt then allegedly climbed into Murphy’s Camry and drove off, disappearing with her inside. Authorities say he carried her across the state line into Pennsylvania, where Lower Makefield Township Police later located the vehicle parked near East Ferry Road along the Delaware Canal. That’s where they discovered Murphy’s body, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

Later that same Sunday, Truitt turned himself in to Trenton Police without incident, according to law enforcement. Prosecutors have filed a motion to keep him in custody while he awaits trial.

He now faces a serious slate of charges: first-degree murder, first-degree attempted murder, first-degree carjacking, two counts of second-degree weapons possession, unlawful possession of a handgun, and being a person prohibited from having a firearm.

Mercer County Prosecutor Janetta Marbrey expressed her gratitude for the joint investigation, especially crediting the Lower Makefield Township Police Department and the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office for their help.

Police say there is no ongoing threat to the public, but the investigation remains active. They’re urging anyone who saw anything suspicious that morning — especially near Coolidge Avenue or along the Delaware Canal — to reach out.
