ALPHARETTA, Ga. — A tense standoff at the Comfort Suites hotel in Alpharetta ended Monday afternoon when a murder suspect wanted in connection with an Atlanta-area case was taken into custody by federal agents.
The incident began in the early afternoon at the Comfort Suites on Kingswood Place. FBI and local law enforcement officers had gone to serve an arrest warrant on a man wanted in Atlanta. When agents arrived, the suspect refused to come out and barricaded himself inside a hotel room alone, authorities said.
For hours, negotiators worked to talk the man out of the room while officers kept a tight perimeter around the building. Guests and nearby businesses watched as law enforcement vehicles and uniformed officers filled the hotel parking lot, creating a heavy security presence that drew attention from the local community.
As the afternoon wore on, the FBI continued efforts to reach the man, but details on what he said or did during the standoff were not publicly released. Officials also did not immediately reveal the suspect’s name or the exact nature of the murder charges he faced.
Just after 3:30 p.m., the barricaded suspect exited the room and surrendered without violence. Federal authorities took him into custody safely and without injury to officers or bystanders, according to the FBI.
Neighbors and hotel guests expressed relief as the situation came to a close. Those staying at the Comfort Suites said they had been told to stay clear of the hallways and remain calm while police worked to end the standoff peacefully.
The FBI and local police will now transport the suspect to face charges in connection with the murder case in Atlanta. At this time, prosecutors have not released charging documents or scheduled a court appearance.
