Carriere, Mississippi Woman Dies After Single-Vehicle Crash on LA-1078

A 64-year-old woman from Carriere, Mississippi, has died following a single-vehicle crash Friday morning in St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana, authorities confirmed.

At approximately 11:30 a.m., troopers from Louisiana State Police (Troop L) responded to a crash on LA-1078 near Spinks Road, where they found that a 2006 Mercury Grand Marquis driven by Sandy A. Meyer had veered off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree.

lived in Carriere, was properly restrained at the time of the crash, according to the preliminary investigation. Despite that, she suffered serious injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

The official report says the crash remains under investigation, including toxicology tests as part of the standard procedure. At this time, no definitive cause has been announced — whether it was impairment, distraction, fatigue, or another factor remains unknown.

Friends and neighbors remember Meyer as a quiet, devoted member of her community. While details about her life beyond her hometown are limited, the news of her passing has rippled out to Carriere and surrounding areas, bringing shock and sorrow to those who knew her.

Authorities with the state police are urging motorists to stay alert on the roads — emphasizing the importance of remaining focused, avoiding distractions, and always wearing seat belts. They note that even when a vehicle leaves the road unexpectedly, simple precautions can sometimes mean the difference between a crash that’s survivable and one that’s fatal.

As the investigation continues, police are asking anyone with information — or who may have witnessed the crash — to reach out to Troop L’s public affairs office. The hope is that additional context might shed light on exactly what happened that morning.
