The tight-knit community in Irvine, California, is reeling from the unexpected death of Lance Anthony Mabin, a devoted father of six known to many as DJ Antron. His sudden passing has left his kids and loved ones grappling with a deep sense of loss, turning everyday moments into painful reminders of a man who lived with passion and purpose.
Lance was a true creative force. He dove headfirst into the worlds of film and music, where he channeled his talent and imagination. As a visual effects artist, he contributed to over 100 major motion pictures, including blockbusters like The Fifth Element, X-Men, Iron Man, Star Wars: Episode One, and The Lord of the Rings. Behind the scenes, he helped bring epic stories to life, from special effects in True Lies to animation in Michael Jackson’s videos. His work wasn’t just a job—it was a way to inspire others to chase their own dreams.

But Lance’s talents didn’t stop at Hollywood. As DJ Antron, he became a legend in the 80s and 90s Los Angeles scene, spinning tracks at iconic spots like Club Metro and Radiotron. He was part of the Jam Crew and even went by DJ Scratchmatic. On top of that, he was a rapper and recording engineer at Rapper’s Rap Records, working with artists like DJ Quik, Too Short, Ronnie Hudson, and King MC. His beats and mixes captured the energy of the era, and he shared that vibe generously with everyone around him.
Lance also had a technical side that took him to new heights—literally. He designed satellites for NASA at Rockwell International, earning praise for his innovative animations and developments. Born in Seattle, Washington, he brought that same inventive spirit to everything he touched, whether it was engineering rap sessions or crafting visual magic for the big screen.
What made Lance truly special, though, was his heart. He was kind, encouraging, and always there to lift people up. Friends and family remember him as someone who listened deeply, made others feel valued, and offered support without hesitation. He taught his kids to stay true to themselves, and his generosity extended to his own family—he even set up a GoFundMe in 2018 for his mother, Linda, during her medical crisis. Sadly, she passed away in June 2025, adding another layer of grief for the Mabins.
Now, his six children, led by organizer Aysha Mabin, are navigating this tough time. The unexpected loss has brought emotional pain and financial hurdles, like covering funeral and memorial costs. They’re asking for help through a GoFundMe campaign aiming for $3,000, with about $690 raised so far from eight donors. It’s not easy to ask, but they want to honor Lance with the dignity he deserves, focusing on memories instead of worries.
Lance’s legacy lives on in his art, his music, and the lives he touched. From Irvine to the studios of Hollywood, people are coming together to remember a man who gave so much. He’ll be deeply missed, but his light—creative, warm, and unstoppable—will keep shining.
Rest in peace, Lance (DJ Antron). Your spirit and stories will never fade.
