SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — On the morning of November 25, police responding to a stabbing call at a home on the 1400 block of State Street discovered a harrowing scene: two men and a woman dead inside. By Monday, authorities had confirmed the identities of the victims — and implicated a third individual, who apparently took his own life.
Officers arrived just before 10 a.m. after receiving reports of a possible stabbing. As they entered the residence — located near the junction of State Street and Ionia Street — they found three adults: two men and a woman.

Authorities have since identified the victims as 67-year-old Khamkieo Chingvacha of Springfield and 47-year-old Sachivanh Phomphanh of West Hartford, Connecticut. The third person, 43-year-old Kung Kedjumnong — also from West Hartford — is believed to have fatally stabbed Chingvacha and Phomphanh before turning the weapon on himself.
According to the office of the Hampden County District Attorney’s Office, investigators say evidence at the scene strongly supports the conclusion of murder-suicide. At present, no motive has been released, nor has the exact nature of the relationships between the three individuals been disclosed. Investigations are ongoing under the joint efforts of the Springfield Police Department Homicide Unit and the DA’s Murder Unit, with no public safety threat identified.
Neighbors described the morning as surreal and devastating. Crime-scene tape blocked off the home, and a white Crime Scene Unit van stood outside as officers came and went for hours. Some residents said they saw neighbors leaving in tears, unable to reconcile the quiet street with the violent tragedy inside.
The suddenness of the deaths, and the apparent self-destruction of the suspect, have left many in the community struggling to make sense of what happened. On a day that began like any other in this Springfield neighborhood, two lives were lost — and a third, consumed by despair, took his own as his act of violence concluded.
Investigators emphasize this remains a “developing story,” and details — including motive, background and potential connections between the victims — may emerge as the review continues.
Families are mourning, neighbors are shaken, and the investigation, led by dedicated homicide detectives and prosecutors, presses on — seeking answers so that this heartbreak does not remain just a tragic mystery.
