Liverpool, Texas — A tight-knit neighborhood along Liverpool Spur was shaken Sunday evening when deputies found 27-year-old Javier Martinez lying lifeless with multiple gunshot wounds outside a home in the 200 block of Liverpool Spur. Emergency crews rushed to the scene after a 911 call about a disturbance, but Martinez was pronounced dead at the spot despite all efforts to save him.
When Brazoria County Sheriff’s deputies arrived around 6:29 p.m., they discovered the young man on the ground with obvious trauma from gunfire. Martinez showed no signs of life, prompting a grim shift from rescue to recovery. The serene block, usually quiet and unremarkable, turned into a crime scene in an instant.

At the scene, officers detained another man, later identified by investigators as 28-year-old Manuel De Jesus Munoz Chavez of nearby Alvin, allowing medics to safely enter and begin life-saving measures on Martinez. Those attempts were unsuccessful, and Martinez was soon declared dead.
The Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office said detectives, crime scene specialists and forensic teams combed the property for clues and evidence after the shooting. Martinez’s body was then taken to the Galveston County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy to determine his official cause and manner of death.
Chavez was arrested at the scene and is expected to be charged with murder once prosecutors review the evidence. Law enforcement officials have not yet released details about a possible motive, or whether Martinez and Chavez knew each other before the deadly encounter. The investigation is ongoing and authorities are asking anyone with information to come forward.
Residents in this small Brazoria County community, part of the Houston metropolitan area, say a sense of normalcy has been broken. Liverpool is home to fewer than 500 people, where news like this ripples through families and friends. Locals say they are looking to law enforcement to bring answers and accountability.
As the sheriff’s office continues to work the case, neighbors remain saddened and reflective about Martinez’s death. His loss is felt across the community, and the search for clarity in what led to the shooting persists as detectives piece together the final hours of his life.
