Touching Tragedy in Indianapolis: 19‑Year‑Old Antwan Hayes Kills Brother of Ex‑Girlfriend’s Boyfriend After Threats

A quiet early‑morning in Indianapolis turned into heartbreak when 23‑year‑old Kenneth Anthony Murff Jr. was fatally shot after a confrontation sparked by a jealous threat. The shooting happened around 4 a.m. on November 11, 2025, on North Oxford Street in a neighborhood still trying to make sense of that night.

Police say 19‑year‑old Antwan Hayes had threatened to harm “the next man” his former girlfriend dated after their breakup earlier in the year. The woman told investigators she tried to stay hidden and keep her new relationship private because of Hayes’ ominous warning.

That morning, the woman arrived at her new boyfriend’s home and minutes later Hayes showed up at the same house carrying a handgun. Neighbors later told police they heard him shouting for someone to open the door, demanding access and warning that someone was going to get hurt.

No one opened the door. Instead, detectives say Hayes walked around the side of the house and fired several shots through a window. The bullets struck Murff, who was in the home at the time. He was rushed to a hospital in critical condition and later succumbed to his injuries.

After the shooting, Hayes and the woman left the scene in her car. She later told officers she felt afraid and confused by what was unfolding, insisting she never expected Hayes to make good on his earlier threat.

Hayes fled the city but didn’t stay on the run for long. On January 1, 2026, he turned himself in to Indianapolis police. He now faces charges of murder and burglary with a deadly weapon, and remains in the Marion County Jail without bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for March 3.

Friends and neighbors describe Murff as a young man with a full life ahead, one cut tragically short by a moment that began with a threat few took seriously until it was too late. The case continues to weigh heavily on the community as it looks for answers and justice in the heart of Indiana.
