The FBI is scaling back its on-the-ground presence in Tucson and moving the command post in the Nancy Guthrie investigation to Phoenix, a source briefed on the investigation told ABC News Thursday.
Some agents will remain in Tucson to continue working with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, but many are returning to Phoenix, home to the FBI’s main office in Arizona, to continue the case, according to the outlet.
The Independent has contacted the FBI and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department for comment.
The shift in operations does not mean the case is over or that the FBI is giving up the search for the 84-year-old mother of “Today” anchor Savannah Guthrie, who was abducted from her Tucson home on February 1, ABC News reports.
