BIBB COUNTY, Ala. — On the afternoon of Wednesday, Nov. 12, what began as a normal day in rural Bibb County ended in heartbreaking tragedy: 24-year-old Donshay M. Burton of Tuscaloosa and her 7-month-old infant lost their lives when the car she was driving collided head-on with another vehicle.
According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), the crash happened around 3 p.m. on County Road 9 near Vance Road, about three miles west of West Blocton. Burton was driving a 2025 Kia K4 when it struck a 2019 Kia Sorento driven by 50-year-old Melissa Wallen of West Blocton. The impact was so severe that the Kia K4 ignited after the collision.

Both Burton and her infant were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Wallen was transported to a Birmingham-area hospital for treatment; as of the latest update, her condition has not been publicly disclosed.
The sudden loss of a young mother and her child has reverberated through their families and the surrounding community. For those who knew Donshay, her short life was filled with love, warmth and hope — and the child she carried represented the bright future every parent dreams of. Now, those dreams are gone, and the ache remains.
In the grieving process, those left behind are clinging to memories of laughter, gentle embraces, first smiles, quiet moments that once seemed so ordinary but now feel infinitely precious. The crash serves as a sobering reminder of how fragile life can be — how one ordinary afternoon can forever change so many lives.
As Bibb County and Tuscaloosa mourn together, hearts are extended to friends, family and even strangers who feel the weight of this loss. May Donshay and her baby rest in peace — and may their memory encourage us all to hold our loved ones just a little closer.
Investigators with the ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division continue to examine the circumstances of the crash, including whether speed, visibility or other factors played a role. No further information about the other driver or possible contributing causes has been released at this time.
