Tennessee quadruple murder suspect to face court after baby found abandoned in stranger’s yard

A rural Tennessee community is grappling with shock as 28‑year‐old Austin Robert Drummond is set to make his first appearance in the afternoon in the circuit court of Lake County, Tennessee, accused of the July 29 killings of four family members and the kidnapping of an infant.

On November 10, a grand jury indicted Drummond on charges of first‑degree murder and aggravated kidnapping in connection with the shootings. He will now appear for his arraignment after previously pleading not guilty in a lower court where a judge found sufficient evidence for the case to proceed.

Authorities say the victims are the baby’s parents—21‑year‑old James M. Wilson and 20‑year‑old Adrianna Williams—along with Adrianna’s young brother, 15‑year‑old Braydon Williams, and their mother, 38‑year‑old Cortney Rose. Their bodies were found in a wooded area in the small town of Tiptonville, Tennessee after being shot.

Earlier, investigators responded to a report of an infant left in a car seat on the front lawn of a stranger’s home in a neighboring county. That discovery triggered a widespread manhunt that ended on August 5 in Jackson, Tennessee, roughly 70 miles southeast of the crime scene.

During a preliminary hearing in September, an FBI agent testified that cellphone data placed Drummond near the site where the bodies were found — a patch of woods where gunshot victims were covered with tarps. However, Drummond’s attorney, Bryan Huffman, argues that no direct proof was presented showing that Drummond pulled the trigger.

Prosecutors say they intend to seek the death penalty if Drummond is convicted of the first‑degree murders. As the case proceeds, five other individuals have been charged as accessories after the fact.

Local residents in Tiptonville, a quiet community of roughly 3,400 people, are still absorbing the tragedy of a baby spared while the rest of the immediate family was killed. The infant remains in protective care while police continue to investigate motive and details.
