A 28-year-old man, later identified as Jerrodte Shelby, was found shot and killed in Chicago’s Near West Side in the early hours of Sunday, November 16, 2025. The shooting occurred just after 3 a.m. in the 100 block of North Elizabeth Street, according to police reports.
When officers arrived, they discovered Shelby on the ground with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. He was quickly transported to Stroger Hospital by first responders but was later pronounced dead. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed his identity.

According to the Sun-Times, Shelby was a resident of the Parkway Gardens neighborhood. The medical examiner’s office reported that he was pronounced dead at Stroger at around 8:43 a.m., and an autopsy has been scheduled.
Chicago police say no arrests have been made yet, and detectives from Area 3 are leading the investigation, labeling the case a homicide. Authorities have offered no updates so far on a possible motive or suspect.
Neighbors in West Town have expressed shock and concern. The neighborhood, already grappling with ongoing gun violence, feels each incident more deeply — and this latest one is no exception. Local residents say incidents like this shake the sense of safety in a place they call home.
As the investigation continues, community members are calling for answers and for more visible policing and resources. Area 3 detectives are urging anyone with information to step forward, as the loss of a young life hits close to home and underscores a harsh reality for many in the city.
