The Pierre community was rocked by grief Saturday after the tragic death of Leslie Edwin Wulf, 78, following a single-vehicle crash Friday evening two miles east of Blunt. Those who knew Leslie describe him as a warm, generous soul whose kindness touched everyone. His obituary paints a picture of a devoted Christian and a pillar in his community—a man whose presence made Pierre feel more like home.

Leslie was born on November 27, 1946. After serving in the U.S. Navy, he pursued a life rooted in both service and hard work, eventually connecting deeply with the land and the people around him. In Pierre, he became well known through his ownership of the Outpost Lodge, a place where locals and visitors alike felt welcomed, cared for, and part of something special.

His passions were many: Angus cattle, vintage tractors, Corvettes—and later in life, learning to fly a gyrocopter. But above all, Leslie cherished relationships. His marriage to Barb Leesman in 2022 was a true source of joy, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and a deep sense of family.

A committed member of Faith Lutheran Church in Pierre, Leslie lived out his faith in everyday acts of kindness. Whether helping a neighbor, sharing a story around the lodge, or quietly supporting someone in need, he embodied a humble spirit that left a lasting mark.

Visitation for Leslie is set for Thursday, November 20, from 5 to 7 p.m., followed by a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Pierre. His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, November 21, at the same church, with burial to follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Blunt.

Pierre is mourning deeply—but also celebrating a life well lived. Leslie Edwin Wulf brought warmth, generosity, and friendship to every corner of his world, and though he’s gone, his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know him.
