Chimei Zounon Found Dead in Southwest Oklahoma City Apartment — Police Hunt Unknown Gunmen

OKLAHOMA CITY — A gunshot rang out in the still of the night at the Brookwood Village Apartments near Southwest 89th Street and Western Avenue, and by 1:30 a.m. local police had discovered a man fatally shot inside an apartment.

Officers with the Oklahoma City Police Department (OCPD) responded after a 911 call reporting gunfire. On entering the unit, they found the victim dead. So far, officers have not disclosed the man’s identity, though early witness accounts suggest several people fled the scene shortly after the shots rang out.

Witnesses described a chaotic and terrifying moment: several individuals running from the building, and police rapidly establishing a perimeter. K‑9 units were deployed and a sweeping search of the surrounding area began — but as of now, no arrests have been made and no suspect descriptions released.

One police official, Lt. Jeff Cooper, said detectives and crime‑scene investigators remain on site. The department is treating this as an active homicide investigation.

Neighbors at Brookwood Village described the apartment complex as usually quiet and safe — a serene place at night. The sudden violence has sent shockwaves through the community. One resident recalled being startled awake by flashing lights and sirens, only to learn someone had been killed just a few doors away. The sense of safety many felt there now feels shaken.

Authorities are urging anyone with information — no matter how small — to come forward. They emphasize that even a fleeting detail, like a car description or the direction people ran, could help them track down those responsible.

As of this morning, the name of the victim, previously reported in one draft as “Chimei Zounon,” has not been publicly confirmed by police. The investigation remains active, officers say, with hopes high in the community that whoever committed this act will soon be brought to justice.
