It was a Tuesday night that should have been quiet, but instead, it ended in gunfire and a frantic call for help. Just before 10 p.m. on December 10, the peace at The Retreat at Greenbriar apartments in Southwest Atlanta was shattered. A 9-year-old boy and a 33-year-old woman were inside when they were suddenly struck by bullets, leaving both with painful leg wounds and a community looking for answers.
The Atlanta Police Department recently shared a chilling piece of the puzzle: Ring doorbell footage from the night of the crime. In the video, two people wearing hoodies walk up to an apartment door. They don’t just knock; they bang on the door loudly, twice. Then, in a move that shows they knew they were being watched, one of them reaches up and covers the camera lens with their arm.

Officers arrived at the 3000 block of Continental Colony Parkway to find a chaotic scene. The young boy had been shot in his right leg, and the woman had a gunshot wound to her left leg. Thankfully, both were alert and breathing when paramedics rushed them to the hospital. While they are expected to recover physically, the emotional toll of such a violent intrusion is something no child should ever have to carry.
Detectives are now focusing their attention on a vehicle seen in the area that night—a worn-out Ford Crown Victoria. This car, which sticks out for its rugged appearance, is believed to be linked to the shooters. Investigators are hoping that someone in the neighborhood recognizes the car or the individuals in the video and will do the right thing by speaking up.
As of now, the motive behind the shooting remains a mystery. Police haven’t said if the victims were the intended targets or if they were caught in the crossfire of something else. What is clear, however, is that the department is pulling out all the stops to get these individuals off the streets before someone else gets hurt.
