Holy Family University Mourns Loss of Star Athlete Amber Fisgaer in Philadelphia

Philadelphia is mourning a truly special young woman today. Amber Fisgaer, a standout student-athlete at Holy Family University, passed away on December 24, 2025. Her sudden death has left a massive hole in the hearts of her family, her teammates, and the many friends who loved her. She was the kind of person who didn’t just walk into a room; she brightened it, leaving everyone she met feeling a little better than they did before.

Amber was much more than just a talented runner. She was a daughter, a sister, and a loyal friend who always put others first. People often called her one half of “the twins” or “Amberandashley” because of the inseparable bond she shared with her sister. They grew up leaning on each other through thick and thin, especially after losing their mother to cancer years ago. That shared strength defined who Amber was—someone who knew the value of family and never took a single moment for granted.

On the track and cross-country trails, Amber was a force to be reckoned with. As a captain, she led by example and was honored with multiple academic and athletic awards, including the prestigious CACC Top XVII Award. But if you asked her teammates, they wouldn’t talk about her medals first. They would tell you about her heart. She was the one who welcomed every new runner with open arms, making sure no one ever felt like an outsider.

Her friends have been sharing some beautiful memories that show just how much she loved life. They talk about laughing together in art class, obsessing over their favorite bands, and the many trips they took to the mall or for a quick hot chocolate. Those simple, everyday moments are what they’re holding onto now. To them, Amber was the person you could always count on for a movie night or a shoulder to cry on, no matter what.

Amber’s leadership wasn’t about being the loudest person in the room; it was about being the most compassionate. She had a way of encouraging people that made them want to do their best, not just for the team, but for themselves. She treated her teammates like family, and that sense of community is a huge part of the legacy she leaves behind at Holy Family University and in the wider Philadelphia area.

As the community comes together to support the Fisgaer family, the sense of loss is heavy. It’s hard to wrap your head around someone so full of energy and life being gone so soon. People are remembering her as a natural leader who radiated warmth and positivity every single day. Her smile was one of those things you just couldn’t forget, and it served as a constant reminder to stay positive even when things got tough.

Amber Fisgaer is now at peace, but her spirit is definitely still here in the lives she touched. She taught everyone around her how to love deeply, lead with kindness, and live with genuine joy. While her time was far too short, she made an impact that will last forever. Rest easy, Amber. Keep running fast and know that you will always be remembered as the heart of the team.
