BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The city woke up to heartbreaking news Monday as loved ones confirmed that 29-year-old Erick Ramoine Williams Jr. of Birmingham died after a motorcycle crash on the city’s west side near Birmingport Road and Templeton Avenue.
Late Sunday night, Erick told family he was going out for a ride. Hours passed. When he didn’t return, concern grew. His family and Birmingham police began searching for him early Monday morning. Using a location-sharing app, they eventually traced his phone to the crash site and found him unresponsive beside his motorcycle.
Emergency crews arrived and confirmed Erick’s death at the scene just before 11:30 a.m. Monday. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office pronounced him dead on the street where he was found.
Police say no other vehicles were involved in the crash, and he was the only rider. Authorities have not yet released details about why he lost control or what caused him to crash. The Birmingham Police Department continues to investigate.
