Allen Park Police Shoot Armed Man with Box Cutter Near Southfield Road

ALLEN PARK, Mich. — A tense and frightening scene unfolded Sunday afternoon when Allen Park police shot a man armed with a box cutter near 14800 Southfield Road, close to the intersection of Southfield and Dix Highway, not far from a 7 Brew Coffee shop.

Shortly after midday, police were called to the area on reports of an armed individual wandering near traffic and businesses with a large blade in his hand. When officers arrived, they found an adult male holding a box cutter and refusing to put it down.

Video from the scene captured officers calmly trying to talk the man down. They repeatedly told him to drop the blade and step away, clearly showing efforts to defuse the situation without violence.

Despite the repeated verbal warnings, the man kept moving toward the officers while still clutching the box cutter. He did not follow their commands to disarm and back away.

At a critical moment, officers felt they had no choice but to use deadly force. They fired their weapons, striking the man several times. Initial information from authorities says he was hit about four times.

Emergency responders quickly took the wounded man into custody right there on the street. Medics then rushed him to a nearby hospital for urgent treatment. As of this writing, police have not released details about his current condition.

Allen Park police also confirmed that none of the officers who responded were injured during the confrontation. Witnesses and bystanders were kept at a safe distance as the scene was secured and investigators began collecting evidence.

The area around Southfield Road and Dix Highway remained blocked off for hours as detectives and crime scene units worked through the evening, sorting through what happened and speaking to witnesses who were nearby when the incident took place.

This officer‑involved shooting is now an active investigation. Police say they will share more information with the public as it becomes available in the coming days.
