Rousillac Woman Shot Dead in Shocking Debe Roundabout Attack; Husband Hospitalized with Multiple Gunshot Wounds
ROUSILLAC, TRINIDAD & TOBAGO — A quiet Sunday night turned into a scene of horror and tragedy when 59-year-old Elizabeth “Mary” Lennard of Rousillac was brutally gunned down while traveling in a vehicle with her husband at the Debe roundabout. The disturbing incident has sent shockwaves through the south Trinidad community, raising fresh concerns about violent crime and public safety.
According to official reports from the La Romain Police District, the fatal shooting occurred at approximately 10:15 p.m. on Sunday, June 15. The victims were reportedly ambushed while in transit, leading to a frantic and chaotic aftermath that ended with Lennard dead at the scene and her husband, 63-year-old Premnath Enal, severely injured.
The Discovery
At approximately 10:20 p.m., officers on mobile patrol were alerted by the E999 Command Centre to a report of an unresponsive person inside a vehicle at Church Street, Rambert Village. When first responders arrived three minutes later, they found a white Nissan AD wagon (registration PDZ 4141) parked across the roadway with visible blood stains on the left rear passenger door.
Inside the car, they discovered the motionless body of an East Indian woman, later confirmed to be Elizabeth Lennard. She was found reclined in the front passenger seat, bearing apparent gunshot injuries to her face. The driver’s side door was ajar, the engine still running, and the headlights on, painting a grim and chilling scene of what had just occurred.
A Desperate Plea for Help
As police began their investigation, they were approached by a local resident who had made the initial report. She told officers that around 10:15 p.m., her neighbor called out urgently to her from outside. When she went to investigate, she found Premnath Enal—injured, bloodied, and visibly distraught—standing in her yard.
Enal reportedly told her that he and his wife had been shot near the Debe roundabout and that his wife was still in the car and unresponsive. However, before further help could be provided, Enal began to panic and fled the scene, disoriented and severely injured.
Ongoing Search and Second Victim Located
First responders immediately secured the area and began searching for Enal. Approximately 150 metres away, down a poorly lit adjacent street, they discovered him lying on the roadway, barely conscious and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) were dispatched to the scene and transported Enal to the San Fernando General Hospital, where he was treated for high-velocity injuries to the face and jaw, right forearm, and right upper thigh, along with abrasions to his left ear. Despite the severity of his injuries, he was still exhibiting signs of life upon discovery and remains under medical care.
Community in Shock, Police Investigating Motive
As the investigation unfolds, the motive for the shooting remains unclear. No suspects have been identified or apprehended as of this time. Residents and community leaders have expressed both grief and concern, calling on authorities to bring those responsible to justice swiftly.
Police have cordoned off the area as the Homicide Bureau of Investigations Region III works alongside Crime Scene Investigators to collect forensic evidence, conduct interviews, and trace the couple’s movements prior to the attack.
Elizabeth “Mary” Lennard is remembered by neighbors as a kind, soft-spoken woman who lived a quiet life in Rousillac. The sudden and violent nature of her death has left many reeling and demanding answers.
