According to preliminary findings from the Texas Department of Public Safety and local authorities, a pickup truck driven by a 16-year-old girl attempted to cross Highway 380 from Private Road 4011 when it was struck by an oncoming 18-wheeler. The impact of the high-speed collision was so forceful that it caused the semi-truck to overturn.
The 16-year-old driver, whose identity has not yet been released publicly pending full family notification, was rushed by ambulance to a trauma center. Despite the best efforts of medical professionals, she was later pronounced deceased due to the severe injuries sustained in the crash.
A 13-year-old male passenger in the pickup truck was pronounced dead at the scene. A third occupant, a 12-year-old girl, survived the collision and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Her current condition has not been released but is being closely monitored.
The driver of the 18-wheeler, who was not seriously injured, remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. Officials have not released the name of the truck driver but noted that impairment is not suspected at this time.
The Texas Department of Public Safety is leading the investigation, and Highway 380 was temporarily closed in both directions for several hours to allow for emergency response, cleanup, and a full crash reconstruction. Skid marks, debris, and the toppled semi served as a grim reminder of the tragic events that unfolded in the early morning hours.
Local residents and school officials expressed their heartbreak at the loss of such young lives. “This is every parent’s worst nightmare,” said one community member. “They were just kids—full of promise, full of life. It’s an unimaginable loss for their families and for all of us.”

The investigation remains ongoing, and officials are urging drivers to remain alert and cautious at intersections, particularly along rural highways where visibility and speed can be deadly factors.
